The MTP ®/ MPO to MTP ®/ MPO 48 fiber optic cable assembly is a multi-fiber alternative to the traditional distribution and breakout cables.

 The MTP ®/ MPO is a connector manufactured specifically for a multi-fiber ribbon cable. The multimode connector ferrule commonly has a flat polish.

The ribbon cable is flat and appropriately named due to its flat ribbon like structure which houses 12 fibers side by side in a jacket 3/16 of an inch or 5mm wide. The 48-fiber cable has 4 subunits of 12 fibers. Two 12-fiber subunits are side-by-side and stacked on top of each other encased in an outer jacket. (Gigabit Ethernet Fiber Specifications)
